About Hinchman Church Community Center
Hinchman Church has stood as a quiet landmark of faith, family, and community life in Hinchman and Oronoko Township. Today, this cherished space begins a new chapter as a beautifully preserved community venue for weddings, celebrations, gatherings, and meaningful moments of all kinds.
The original Hinchman Church was built in 1884, serving as the spiritual home for generations. Its story is one of resilience and devotion. After a devastating fire in 1942 caused by a faulty furnace, the congregation immediately began planning to rebuild. Because construction occurred during World War II, the church even had to receive special permission from President Roosevelt after the War Production Board initially denied the request.
By October 31, 1943, the new sanctuary was completed and dedicated with heartfelt participation from the entire congregation — a moment that shaped the community for decades to come.
The rebuilding effort wasn’t just about erecting walls. Local families insisted the church should look and feel like a home, a value that is still felt in the building's warm architecture and intimate atmosphere today. Its treasured stained-glass window, still the focal point of the sanctuary, has witnessed countless weddings, baptisms, community events, and Sunday gatherings.
